Khi đọc một bài nào đó, bạn nên tìm ra “ngôn ngữ dấu hiệu” – signposting language mà tác giả dùng để giúp cho việc đọc, hiểu văn bản của bạn trở nên dễ dàng hơn.

1. Dùng để sắp xếp danh sách các mục, các ý trong bài.

- Đề cập đến đầu tiên:

to begin with=first/firstly=- Đề cập tiếp theo:

second/secondly=third/thirdly=then=next=after=subsequently

- Đề cập cuối cùng:

in the end=eventually=finally=lastly

2. Dùng để thể hiện những điểm, ý quan trọng nhất

above all=first and foremost=most importantly=especially=in particular=notably=significantly

3. Dùng để nêu thêm ý

And =too=also=similarly=likewise=furthermore=again=moreover=what is more=in addition=besides=above all =then=as well as

4. Nêu ví dụ

for example

5. Chỉ ra kết quả hoặc hậu quả

6. Chỉ ra sự đối lập hoặc so sánh

But = however/ nevertheless = or = alternatively = on the contrary = by the way of contrast = in contrast = in comparision = on the other hand = then = conversely = instead = yet = anyway = even so = despite this = whereas = although = otherwise = still = besides = rather = another possibility would be = an/ the alternative is

7. Nhắc lại một tranh cãi hay một ý nào đó

8. Làm cho một ý trong bài trở nên thuyết phục

9. Kết luận

in conclusion = to conclude = to sum up = in brief = to summarize = overall = then = therefore = thus = in a nutshell
